Strong Showing From Both Offenses In The Sweepers Loss To Saints

The Sweepers's bats were strong against the Saints on Sunday, but it wasn't enough as the Sweepers fell 18-12 at Lakeview Terrace Park. Saints collected 16 hits, while the Sweepers had 12. Saints rallied for the victory despite trailing 10-2 in the first. Saints got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jack Taverna doubled to center field, and Kenny Mckeon singled to left field, each scoring one run. The Sweepers flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring 10 runs on five hits to take the lead, 10-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Joe Russell that drove in two. Mckeon homered to left field, scoring two runs in the top of the third for the Saints. Saints flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring 11 runs on four hits to take the lead, 16-10. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Simon Huyck that drove in two. Saints scored one run in the top of the seventh on a solo home run to left field by Danny Leahy. Zach Pattison earned the win for Saints. The right-handed pitcher gave up eight hits and eight runs (seven earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out five and walking four. Tyler Wilhelm took the loss for the Sweepers. The righty went three and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, striking out none and walking three. Brian Roston started on the bump for the Sweepers. The righty allowed seven hits and five runs (four earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking two. The Sweepers piled up 12 hits in the game. Russell led TCAMBL Sweepers with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The infielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Thomas Sauer, Russell, Diego Terriquez, and Eddie Hamill each collected two hits for the Sweepers. The Sweepers had a strong eye at the plate, amassing 10 walks for the game. Russell and Joey Cronin led the team with two bases on balls each. The Sweepers stole five bases in the game. The Sweepers turned one double play in the game. The Saints piled up 16 hits in the game. Mckeon provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Saints with four runs batted in. The pitcher went 3-for-4 on the day. Jerry Schumacher, Huyck, and Mckeon each collected three hits for Saints. Kosta Voukidis and Eric Ripley each collected multiple hits for Saints. Ripley led Saints with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game. Huyck stole two bases. Saints stole six bases in the game.
