Sweepers Stymied By Saints

The Sweepers had trouble keeping up with Saints in a 15-1 loss on Sunday at Lakeview Terrace Park. Saints opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. Saints first got on the board when Casey Welsh singled, scoring one run. Saints scored six runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. Eric Ripley drew a walk, scoring one run, Jack Taverna drew a walk, scoring one run, and Welsh hit a grand slam to left field. Saints scored seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Taverna singled, scoring one run, Tommy Hehn grounded out, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Danny Leahy doubled, scoring one run, Charlie Lindstrom drew a walk, scoring one run, Zach Pattison was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Quenton Max singled, scoring one run. Jerry Schumacher earned the win for Saints. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and one run over five innings, striking out six and walking three. Eddie Hamill took the loss for the Sweepers. The righty went one and one-third innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking four. Elijah Enna, Parker Rislov, and Matthew Gerding each collected one hit for the Sweepers. Joey Cronin led the Sweepers with one run batted in. Saints piled up 14 hits in the game. Welsh provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Saints with five runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Ripley, Leahy, and Welsh each collected two hits for Saints. Saints had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Taverna and Pattison led the team with two walks each. Taverna and Ripley each stole multiple bases for Saints. Saints ran wild on the base paths, collecting five stolen bases for the game. Saints turned one double play in the game. Saints were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Leahy had the most chances in the field with six. Next up for the Sweepers is a game at Saints on Sunday.
