2021 Playoff Recap-
Legends v Giants in the opening round of the 2021 playoffs was a pitcher’s duel. Until it wasn't. Our ace Jon Lucktenberg was on his game early, throwing 6 shutout innings before the heat became a factor and was taken out for precautionary measures. Michael Walsh and Josh Thyen provided RBIs in the 5th, and we led 2-0 going into the 7th. We couldn't keep the Giants in check after taking Lucky out of the game and quickly fell behind 4-2. Rollie Olson had a clutch 2-run single in the bottom of the 8th to knot things back up at 4. A sloppy 9th saw the Giants score 5 more. We responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but it was too little, too late. Final score 9-7.
2022 Season Preview-
A regular season record of 13-9 was the best in Legends history, but an early playoff exit will fuel the fire for 2022. We should be returning a strong core and look to continue building our brand of baseball.
2021 Week 11 Recap-
Game 1-
Needing 1 win to lock up the #3 seed in the American Division the Legends turned to Jon Lucktenberg, like we have so many times this year, looking to take care of business early. Capitalizing on a few errors, smart baserunning and a handful of timely hits, we held a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th as Lucky was on cruise control. The Expos wouldn't go away quietly though, and fought their way back with a big 4-run inning to take a 4-3 lead. That score would hold over the final two frames. Rollie Olson, Rob McLain and Josh Thyen all had 2 hits in the loss.
Game 2-
Now with our backs against the wall, needing a win, or risk sliding to the 4/5 matchup, the Legends gave the ball to John Toraason, who has been dialed in lately. With some extra life on his fastball, Toro threw 4 hitless innings before giving up a leadoff single in the 5th. His effort was more than enough though, as we had another classic big inning- putting up 9 runs in the bottom of the first. We would also add on 4 more in the second and fourth innings. Everyone got inolved offensively, as we posted a team OBP close to .700 for the game. John Libbey made his first appearance on the mound and closed out the 5-inning win. Final score 17-0.
2021 Playoff Preview-
Posting an overall record of 13-9 this year, we are thrilled with the way the season unfolded. The best record in our relatively short history! Next up we will face the #6 seed Giants in the opening round in Burnsville. Seeds 3-6 in the American division all had records within 1 game of each other, so there will be some competitive Saturday baseball. We split with the Giants during the regular season.
2021 Week 10 Recap-
Game 1-
Jon Lucktenberg continued a very strong campaign with his start on Sunday. Lucky only allowed 2 baserunners while striking out 5 in 6 scoreless innings of work, pushing his consecutive scoreless inning streak up to 20 in a row now. Grant Ryerse came in for the 7th and struck out the side to close the door on a 5-0 shutout of the Ducks. Offensively, we capitalized on a rally by the bottom half of our lineup to score 5 runs in the 2nd. John Libbey came through with a 2-run triple to put us ahead for good.
Game 2-
Erik Lundgren took the mound and delivered a strong outing for the second week in a row. Lundgren went 5 innings, while striking out 7 and only allowing 2R. Lundgren's effort was deserving of a win, but the Legends offense went cold and was shut down by the Duck's starter, Bruggeman. Offensively, John Libbey rounded out his solid day providing the only hit we could manage.
2021 Week 11 Preview-
Now 11-8, the Legends are clinging to a half game lead for the #3 seed in a very crowded American division. Double dipping this week, the Legends finish a game Wednesday night in Northeast against the North Stars. Legends currently up 3-0 in the bottom of the 4th when play resumes. Sunday, we wrap up the regular season on the road at the Expos, with playoff seeding implications on the line.
2021 Week 9 Recap-
Game 1-
Looking to make a statement after playing just under .500 ball over the past month or so, the Legends jumped out early against the Saints to the tune of a 6-run top of the 1st. We would end up scoring 13 runs in the game in a well rounded offensive attack. Rob McLain went deep with an opposite field HR, his first in a Legends uniform. Jared Anderson added 2 hits and 3 RBI in the win. Jon Lucktenberg was on cruise control, striking out 4 and only allowing 3 Saints baserunners in the 5-inning complete game shutout. Final score 13-0.
Game 2-
Another diverse offensive attack in Game 2 saw the Legends score 8 runs on 9 hits and 8 walks. Carl Engbretson landed in the parking lot for his first HR on the season. The story of the game was Erik Lundgren stepping up for his first start of the season and earning the complete game win. Lundgren scattered 6 hits only allowing 2ER while striking out 6 in the 8-3 victory.
2021 Week 10 Preview-
The Week 9 sweep puts us at 10-7, a half game back of the Giants for the 3-seed. Up next the Legends host the Ducks in our final home series of the year.
2021 Week 8 Recap-
Congrats to Jon Lucktenberg (7IP, CGW, SHO, 3H, 3BB, 8K) on being named TCMABL Player of the Week in Week 8!
Game 1-
We've always found a way to play the Sea Donkeys tough, and this Sunday was no different. The story of G1 was without a doubt the brilliant pitching performance of Jon Lucktenberg. Lucky had a career day deserving of POTW consideration, throwing a complete game shutout while striking out 8 and only allowing 3 hits. Rollie Olson scored the only run of the game on a Carl Engbretson RBI single, and we would hang on to win 1-0. True story- this was the first time the Donkeys have been shutout since June 2014!
Game 2-
You can only keep the machine in check for so long, as we learned the hard way in G2. Emery Hull had 2 Grand Slams as the Donkeys struck back quickly to take G2 11-1. Erik Lundgren threw another scoreless inning in relief, dropping his ERA below 1.00 on the season.
2021 Week 9 Preview-
Currently 8-7, holding onto the 4-seed for the moment, the Legends travel to Woodbury this week to take on the up and coming Saints.
2021 Week 7 Recap-
Game 1-
The Legends bats needed a bit of time to warm up coming out of the break. G1 saw us fall 3-1 to a sharp Giants squad. Grant Ryerse doubled and scored the only run of the game. All-Star Jon Lucktenberg was efficient on the mound, allowing 3ER with 7Ks on 82 pitches in his 6 innings of work. Fun note- we turned a 1-3-6-3-4-6-2 double play!
Game 2-
With a bit more life in the bats for the noon tilt, G2 saw a back and forth affair, but eventually we pulled ahead for a solid 7-5 win and series split. The offense was paced by Josh Thyen (2-2, 2B, 3RBI, R, SB) and Rollie Olson (2-2, 2B, 3R, BB). Grant Ryerse earned the win in relief with 4.1 solid innings, allowing 2ER and striking out 3.
2021 Week 8 Preview-
Now 7-6, the Legends face another tough matchup, on the road at the Sea Donkeys.
2021 Week 6 Recap-
Game 1-
The Legends lost to a great Rams team 6-1 in G1. Not much went right for the home team, and the Rams took care of their business like usual. Erik Lundgren was sharp with 2 scoreless innings in relief on the mound. The highlight of the game was great sportsmanship between the two teams as we played without an umpire for the first 5+ innings of the game. Catchers called balls and strikes and we had help of a volunteer base ump. Great reflection of the TCMABL players!
Game 2-
The Legends struck early in G2, batting around and putting up 5 runs in the top of the 1st against another very solid Rams starting pitcher. The Rams would get back in the game quickly though, making the score 5-4 by the end of the 2nd. Turning to Grant Ryerse to hold a lead, Ryerse did more than deliver. Over the next 5 innings, Ryerese allowed only 2H and 1ER with 5Ks. A phenomenal outing against a white hot Rams offense. The only problem is the Rams buckled down and didn't allow the Legends to score the rest of the game. Some untimely mistakes allowed the Rams to score 2 in the bottom of the 7th and walk-off with a 6-5 win.
2021 Week 7 Preview-
After the 4th of July break, the Legends will be on the road again to take on the Giants. The Legends sit at 6-5 overall in TCMABL play.
2021 Week 5 Recap-
Game 1-
After rain put Week 5 games in doubt, the skies cleared just in time for G1. The Legends however left their mojo at home. Unable to put anything together against a very talented North Stars team, we found ourselves on the wrong side of a 7-2 loss. One bright spot, P Grant Ryerse continued to take the league by storm (with his bat!). Ryerse reached all 3 times up including a 2-run HR for the Legends only offense of the game.
Game 2-
About 12:15, the Legends woke up and found our way again. Ace John Toraason was dealing, throwing 4 scoreless innings of 1-hit ball with 5 Ks before the skies opened up and delayed the game to a date to be determined later. The offense was back to its usual tricks too, busting out 6 hits and 3 runs in 3 innings. The Legends will take a 3-0 lead to the bottom of the 4th when the game resumes.
2021 Week 6 Preview-
Now 6-3, the Legends are back at home in Week 6, taking on the Rams at Stan Cyson in the TCMABL 18+ Game of the Week.
2021 Week 4 Recap-
Congrats to John Libbey (7-9, 2 2B, 2 3B, 6RBI, 3R, 2SB) on being named TCMABL Player of the Week in Week 4!
Game 1-
Feeling a bit short-handed on Sunday, especially in the pitching department, Jon Lucktenberg rushed back from the cabin early Sunday morning to start G1, and was as dominant as ever, earning the 5-inning CG W with 11Ks. The offense broke out for 16 hits and 11 runs. The offensive attack was well rounded, as 5 of 9 starters had multiple hits. Michael Walsh (3-3, BB, 2RBI, SB), John Libbey (3-4, 2 2B, 2R) and Keir Anderson (3-4, RBI, 3R, 2SB) led the charge. Final score was 11-1 in 5.
Game 2-
With no proven starting pitching left for G2, Andrew Young took the mound for his first career Legend's start and was rock solid, allowing 1 hit while striking out 3 in 3 innings. Rob McLain and Erik Lundgren each had nice innings on the mound in relief. The bats were hot again, as we pushed across 17 runs in 5 innings. 15 Legends saw plate appearances in the win. John Libbey had himself a day, going 4-5 with 2 3B and 6RBI in G2. Austin Fuller went deep in the 2nd inning as part of his 2-2, 2RBI day. Final score was 17-1 in 5.
2021 Week 5 Preview-
Sitting at 6-2, the Legends go on the road for the first time this season, taking on the North Stars at Van Cleve.
2021 Week 3 Recap-
Game 1-
Jon Lucktenberg continued his solid 2021 reunion tour with another strong outing against the Bombers. Lucky (6IP, 2ER, 5K, 0BB) held the Bomber's big bats in check well enough for the win in G1, as the Legends won 8-3. Grant Ryerse (1IP, 1K) shut the door. The offense was provided mainly through two huge swings. Jared Anderson (2-3, 2B, HR, 3RBI) and John Libbey (1-2, HR, 2RBI) both left the yard. The home runs were Anderson's first of the season and Libbey's first of his Legends career. Carl Engbretson added 2 hits in the win.
Game 2-
A back and forth affair in G2 saw the Legends down 3-0 early, but Grant Ryerse (2-4, HR, 6RBI) showed he can do more than just throw a mean fastball and went deep for a 3-run HR to tie the game. Taking a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the 7th and a 9-6 lead to bottom of the 8th, the Legends found a way to let the sweep slip away 10-9 in extras. Jared Anderson (2-4, 2B) and Rob McLain (2-3, BB) added two hits each in the loss. John Toraason (6.1IP, 6K) found his groove in the middle innings and provided another solid outing on the mound.
2021 Week 4 Preview-
Now 4-2 after the Week 3 split, the Legends look to add 2 more wins to the tally as we take on the Tigers back in Northeast Minneapolis.
