2022 Week 7 Recap-

Game 1-

Week 7 saw our first matchup with the True Blue in a few years. A good week for a friendly rivalry, as the ump was a no show for Game 1. A fan stepped in admirably and umped from behind the mound for the morning session. We sent Lucky to the bump in G1, and he delivered, again. Luck went 6 strong, giving up 1 run on 1 hit, while striking out 4. The offense was a well-rounded, small-ball attack. We chalked up 6 runs on 9 hits from 8 different players, while Alex Houlihan had 2 knocks and Rob McLain added a double. Andrew Young shut the door in the 7th as we hung on for the G1 W. Final score Legends 6 - True Blue 1.

Game 2-

Luckily, a brief rain shower delayed the noon game, which allowed the ump enough time to finally get to the field. John Harper got the ball for Game 2, hoping to continue the strong pitching performance so far on the day. Not to be outdone, Harp threw a brilliant CG, only allowing a solo HR in the bottom of the 7th. Harper stacked up 4 Ks in the win. Another small-ball attack led to a similar result on offense. 8 runs on 9 hits from 7 different players. John Libbey and Michael Walsh each had 2 hits, while Jared Anderson cracked a double. Final score Legends 8 - True Blue 1.

2022 Week 8 Preview-

Next up is the battle for Donaldson, as we will visit the Sea Donkeys at our shared home field. Not to be overshadowed is the heightened impact on the standings as a 13-1 vs 12-2 matchup has Game of the Week potential. Legends currently sit atop the 18+ American via tiebreaker, hoping to hold on in a tightly packed and extremely competitive division.

2022 Week 6 Recap-

Game 1-

Week 6 in Cottage Grove was tagged as the 18+ TCMABL Game of the Week, and boy did the matchup live up to the hype. We jumped on it early in the morning affair, putting up 7 runs quickly and held a 7-0 lead after 3. The Coyotes wouldn't go quietly and worked across 4 runs over the next 2 innings. Lucky did enough to put us in position to win, going 5 innings, giving up 4 runs but also striking out 4. 2022 All-Star Grant Ryerse came in and locked down his second save in as many opportunities. Ryerse didn't allow a hit while striking out 4 over the final 2 frames. The offensive attack was well rounded as Rob McLain, Jared Anderson, Grant Ryerse and John Libbey all had multiple hits in the G1 W. Final score Legends 8 - Coyotes 4.

Game 2-

John Toraason got the ball for Game 2 and turned in another stellar outing. Toro struck out 3 over 4.1 innings of work, while only allowing 1 run. John Libbey made his first pitching appearance of the year and put the team on his back the rest of the game. More on that in a minute. Offensively we couldn't do much against Jason Eddy. Adding to his Player of the Week consideration and to validate his All-Star selection, Grant Ryerse had our only 2 hits of the game, including a 2-run shot to tie the game at 2 in the bottom of the 6th. From that point, stalemate ensued. The Coyotes finally got a "Woodridge" HR in the top of the 11th to break the tie. Oh well. John Libbey delivered 6.2 innings of solid work on the mound, stepping up when a shorthanded pitching staff needed it most. Libbey struck out 4 while clocking over 100 pitches out of the pen. Final score Legends 2 - Coyotes 3 in 11 innings.

2022 Week 7 Preview-

The Legends roll into the 4th of July All-Star break at 10-2, still holding onto a share of 1st place in the American Division. After the break we host the True Blue at Donaldson. We haven't played the boys in blue on a Sunday for a few years, it should be a fun and competitive matchup. Congrats to our 2022 All-Stars! Keir Anderson (4th) & Grant Ryerse (1st)

6/21/20222022 Week 5 Recap / Week 6 Preview

2022 Week 5 Recap-

Game 1-

Week 5 saw the Legends travel to Stillwater High School to take on the Saints. Due to a few injuries, illnesses, weddings, marathons, etc. we rolled up rather shorthanded. So much so that 3rd Base Coach John Corbett put the pants on to play in his first double header since 2017. Unfazed by minimal attendance and the unrelenting heat, we cruised to a 10-0 6-inning victory in Game 1. Jon Lucktenberg took the mound and never looked back. Lucky racked up 8 K's in the complete game shutout. The offense was a well-rounded effort as we put up 12 hits and drew 5 walks. Keir Anderson continued his torrid start to the season with his first HR on the year. Final score Legends 10 - Saints 0 in 6 innings.

Game 2-

We jumped out early in Game 2, putting up 3 runs in the first, but the Saints proved they can stick around, as we found ourselves in a 3-2 ballgame in the bottom of the 4th. Thankfully, some timely hits and aggressive baserunning allowed us to pull away late. John Harper got the start on the mound and delivered a gutsy performance in the heat, going 4 strong, allowing 2 runs and striking out 3. Grant Ryerse came in and did what he does best, striking out 3 to shut the door the rest of the day. Ryerse also tallied 3 hits and 2 RBI as he led the charge offensively. John Libbey and Keir Anderson each added 2 hits to the cause. Final score Legends 11 - Saints 3.

2022 Week 6 Preview-

Now 9-1, and still tied for 1st place in the American division, the Legends travel to Cottage Grove to take on the Coyotes in Week 6. 9-1 vs 9-1 with first place in the division on the line? This matchup has Game of the Week written all over it.

6/14/20222022 Week 4 Recap / Week 5 Preview

2022 Week 4 Recap-

Game 1-

Week 4 saw the Legends travel to Fridley to take on the Tigers. Jon Lucktenberg got the ball first and kept the Tigers in check. Lucky went 3.1 innings, while striking out 7 on only 53 pitches. Andrew Young made his season debut on the mound to clean up the last 1.2 innings of the 5-inning W. Rollie Olson, John Toraason, Michael Walsh and Jon Lucktenberg all had multiple hits in the game. Toro led the charge with 3 hits, 2 doubles, and 3 RBI. Final score Legends 12 - Tigers 0 in 5 innings.

Game 2-

Game 2 had a similar feel to Game 1. John Harper took the mound and dominated. Harp threw a 5-inning complete game shutout, striking out 11. Offensively, we had 10 hits from 10 different players. We also drew 8 walks. Derek Rydlund had the moment of the game as he crushed his first career Legends HR, a 3-run shot that put the game away for good. Final score Legends 14 - Tigers 0 in 5 innings.

2022 Week 5 Preview-

Now 7-1, and still tied for 1st place in the American division, the Legends travel to Stillwater HS to take on the Saints in Week 5. Should be another fun matchup.

6/7/20222022 Week 3 Recap / Week 4 Preview

2022 Week 3 Recap-

Game 1-

Outside of a few new teams we haven't played yet, the Rams were the last remaining active team in the TCMABL we had yet to beat. That elusive win would have to wait a few more hours. Game 1 against the Rams was the pitcher’s duel we all expected. Lucktenberg vs Baker was as good as advertised, with both pitchers dominating opposing lineups and working effectively. Lucky went 6 strong, allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, while striking out 3. Baker went 6.2, only allowing 1 run, while striking out 4. Grant Ryerse added a scoreless 7th inning in relief, but the offense couldn't do enough as Keir Anderson had our only RBI in the game. Final score Legends 1 - Rams 2.

Game 2-

After being stymied in Game 1, the offense decided enough was enough and exploded for 16 runs. It was a balanced attack up and down the lineup, as Keir Anderson, Rob McLain and Jared Anderson all had multiple hits in the win. John Harper took the mound for his first start of the year and turned in a performance that is beginning to become routine. Harp threw an efficient 5-inning complete game, allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, while adding 2 Ks. Final score Legends 16 - Rams 3 in 5 innings.

2022 Week 4 Preview-

Now 5-1, and still tied for 1st place in the American division, the Legends travel to Fridley HS to take on the Tigers in Week 4. Should be a fun matchup.

5/24/20222022 Week 2 Recap / Week 3 Preview

2022 Week 2 Recap-

Game 1-

After being ousted by the Giants in the 2021 Playoffs, the Legends were eager to get back in the win column against the guys in green. Big man Jon Lucktenberg took the mound and delivered all day long. Lucky went 7 strong, allowing 3 runs while striking out 2 and walking none. Aggressive baserunning and timely hitting allowed us to stay in the game. Down 3-2 in the 6th, we were able to scratch across a run to tie the game at 3. Grant Ryerse took over in the 8th and held the Giants scoreless for 2 innings until we could walk things off in the bottom of the 9th. Lucky came in to pinch hit and had the game winning RBI on the first pitch he saw. Keir Anderson paced the offense with 3 hits in the winning effort. Defense was spectacular, setting the tone for the day. Final score Legends 4 - Giants 3 in 9.

Game 2-

G2 starter Erik Lundgren was scratched in pre-game warmups with shoulder tightness, so John Toraason stepped up for the team. Toro was efficient in 4 innings, allowing 3 runs and striking out 3. John Harper came in to bring things home and held the Giants in check for the last 3 innings of the game, allowing 2 runs with 2 K's. Carl Engbretson brought the boom at plate in G2, crushing a 2-run HR to the road beyond the right field fence. More aggressive baserunning and clutch hitting helped us put up 7 runs in the game 2 W. Keir Anderson again had 3 hits, and our defense was rock solid, a defining characteristic of Legends baseball. Final score Legends 7 - Giants 5.

2022 Week 3 Preview-

The Legends are 4-0 for the first time in team history, in what is shaping up to be a fun summer of baseball. We face a massive test after the Memorial Day break, welcoming the also undefeated Rams to Donaldson Park, in the 18+ Game of the Week, with 1st place in the American Division up for grabs.

5/17/20222022 Week 1 Recap / Week 2 Preview

2022 Week 1 Recap-

Game 1-

Much like our recipe for success in 2021, the Legends were led to victory in the 2022 season opener via dominant pitching and solid defense. Ace Jon Lucktenberg got the start and delivered 3 efficient innings, striking out 6 and allowing just 1 hit. After missing the entire 2021 season with a knee injury, John Harper made his return to mound in relief and dominated, striking out 4 in 2 scoreless innings. Offensively, we put up an incredibly balanced attack, amassing 13 hits, 6 BBs, and scoring 11 runs. Carl Engbretson set the pace with a pair of doubles. Final score Legends 11 - Hippos 0 in 5 innings.

Game 2-

Still getting our double-header legs underneath us, we found ourselves tied with the Hippos 1-1 in the bottom of the 3rd, when the offense broke out again, piling up 7 runs in that inning. Rob McLain added a 3-run HR in the 5th and Alex Houlihan added a solo shot in the same inning for good measure. Overall, the offense put up 12 hits, stole 7 bases and tallied 12 runs. Erik Lundgren made the start on the mound and turned in an impressive outing- 4IP, 1ER, 7Ks. John Toraason and Grant Ryerse kept the Hippos in check over the final 3 innings. Final score Legends 12 - Hippos 3.

2022 Week 2 Preview-

The Legends sit at 2-0 to begin a season for the first time in team history. Up next is our home opener at our new home ballpark, Donaldson Field. We'll have our work cut out for us against a very talented Giants team.

9/1/20212021 Playoff Recap / 2022 Season Preview

2021 Playoff Recap-

Legends v Giants in the opening round of the 2021 playoffs was a pitcher’s duel. Until it wasn't. Our ace Jon Lucktenberg was on his game early, throwing 6 shutout innings before the heat became a factor and was taken out for precautionary measures. Michael Walsh and Josh Thyen provided RBIs in the 5th, and we led 2-0 going into the 7th. We couldn't keep the Giants in check after taking Lucky out of the game and quickly fell behind 4-2. Rollie Olson had a clutch 2-run single in the bottom of the 8th to knot things back up at 4. A sloppy 9th saw the Giants score 5 more. We responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but it was too little, too late. Final score 9-7.

2022 Season Preview-

A regular season record of 13-9 was the best in Legends history, but an early playoff exit will fuel the fire for 2022. We should be returning a strong core and look to continue building our brand of baseball.

8/10/20212021 Week 11 Recap / Playoff Preview

2021 Week 11 Recap-

Game 1-

Needing 1 win to lock up the #3 seed in the American Division the Legends turned to Jon Lucktenberg, like we have so many times this year, looking to take care of business early. Capitalizing on a few errors, smart baserunning and a handful of timely hits, we held a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th as Lucky was on cruise control. The Expos wouldn't go away quietly though, and fought their way back with a big 4-run inning to take a 4-3 lead. That score would hold over the final two frames. Rollie Olson, Rob McLain and Josh Thyen all had 2 hits in the loss.

Game 2-

Now with our backs against the wall, needing a win, or risk sliding to the 4/5 matchup, the Legends gave the ball to John Toraason, who has been dialed in lately. With some extra life on his fastball, Toro threw 4 hitless innings before giving up a leadoff single in the 5th. His effort was more than enough though, as we had another classic big inning- putting up 9 runs in the bottom of the first. We would also add on 4 more in the second and fourth innings. Everyone got inolved offensively, as we posted a team OBP close to .700 for the game. John Libbey made his first appearance on the mound and closed out the 5-inning win. Final score 17-0.

2021 Playoff Preview-

Posting an overall record of 13-9 this year, we are thrilled with the way the season unfolded. The best record in our relatively short history! Next up we will face the #6 seed Giants in the opening round in Burnsville. Seeds 3-6 in the American division all had records within 1 game of each other, so there will be some competitive Saturday baseball. We split with the Giants during the regular season.

8/3/20212021 Week 10 Recap / Week 11 Preview

2021 Week 10 Recap-

Game 1-

Jon Lucktenberg continued a very strong campaign with his start on Sunday. Lucky only allowed 2 baserunners while striking out 5 in 6 scoreless innings of work, pushing his consecutive scoreless inning streak up to 20 in a row now. Grant Ryerse came in for the 7th and struck out the side to close the door on a 5-0 shutout of the Ducks. Offensively, we capitalized on a rally by the bottom half of our lineup to score 5 runs in the 2nd. John Libbey came through with a 2-run triple to put us ahead for good.

Game 2-

Erik Lundgren took the mound and delivered a strong outing for the second week in a row. Lundgren went 5 innings, while striking out 7 and only allowing 2R. Lundgren's effort was deserving of a win, but the Legends offense went cold and was shut down by the Duck's starter, Bruggeman. Offensively, John Libbey rounded out his solid day providing the only hit we could manage.

2021 Week 11 Preview-

Now 11-8, the Legends are clinging to a half game lead for the #3 seed in a very crowded American division. Double dipping this week, the Legends finish a game Wednesday night in Northeast against the North Stars. Legends currently up 3-0 in the bottom of the 4th when play resumes. Sunday, we wrap up the regular season on the road at the Expos, with playoff seeding implications on the line.
