Over forty teams play ball in the TCMABL and over 700 players are currently rostered, it’s a big baseball family and that was never more on display this past Sunday in Champlin. Ross Cover was pitching for Delano Bats – formally the Rebyls – and collapsed during the sixth inning on the mound, several players rushed to his aid, but Kyle Brendemuehl of the Champlin Blue Jays was the one who took charge of the situation and possibly saved a life. Good news, Ross is now recovering and doing just fine but like any emergency – hospital care is not cheap and if you’d like to help chip in and help the family of Ross Cover you can go HERE. Please help a fellow TCMABL player and his family.
Trying to talk about boxscores and highlights seems pretty unimportant at this moment. So I will keep it short.
We will start with 28+ action as both superheroes’ the Brewers and Black Sox won but seemed “human” in their final scores. The Black Sox won 5-1 over the Isotopes led by Ben Lemke’s three hit, two RBI day. Ben Lemieux picked up the win. The Brewers won 8-2 over the Bulldogs. Emery Hull had three hits and two runs batted in, Nate Jackson fanned ten in nine innings for the complete game win.
The Piranhas won the “Battle of the Fish” 4-3 over the Muskies. Mike Kuhlman picked up the win going five innings and also went 2-4 with two runs and an RBI. Brandon Case de Calvo picked up the save and also contributed with two hits, including a double and an RBI. Not sure what the Muskies did, someone hit a homerun, I’m sure it was nice – but they never post their stats by the time of print. I’m sure they have a nice Twitter GIF for you though.
Dan Smolik and Corey Purkat both homer for the Mets as they down the Snappers 15-7 in a slugfest at Smothers. Double H (Hausmann and Heezen) both have three runs batted in help the Northeast Nine put away the Generals 15-2. Nate Stark picked up the win.
Matt Brekke homers and strikes out eight in eight innings but it wasn’t enough as the Grasshoppers take advantage of the Mariners bullpen and win 6-5. Eric Hendrickx with three hits and two RBIs, he also struck out eight in eight innings, but Dan Hill picked up the win and Matt Chruscielski picked up the save for the bugs. Scott Lindholm had four runs batted in and Tom Corcoran with four hits, including a double and two triples as the Hounds paw the Lake Monsters 8-7.
Roy Hobbs continues to be mystifying this season, but one thing that remains the same – so far anyway - is that the Grays remain on top of the division after a 6-1 win over the Angels. Jon Schlotz pitched seven strong fanning seven and Jack Nelson closed the door fanning four in two – Nelson also flirted with the fence at Castle with two doubles.
The Mavericks travelled down that ole town road to their past bad habits and got out slugged by the Knights 22-14. Brian Wedewer had five hits for the Mavs but it wasn’t enough. The Knights haven’t posted game statistics since the Obama Administration so I can’t write about how they scored 22 runs off Todd Munson and whatever Juggs machine pitched that game.
The Skeeters beat the Dodgers 4-3. Ken Wangler was suburb pitching a complete game gem, striking out seven and only allowing one earned run and one walk for the win. Casey Johnson had three hits and Mike Schaefer had three runs batted in. Rumor has it, Martin Cheatham walked the winning run in to give the Skeeters the win. Peter Gammons cannot confirm the source though.
Wobblies get on the board and win 6-3 over the shorthanded eight man Voyageurs. Jeremy Salden homered for the green machine but Brian Smith was sharp on the bump going seven innings and striking out six. John Alm had two doubles and two RBIs for the cats.
The Expos won three out four games last week with a Saturday sweep over the Avengers and a split with the Bombers. Speaking of the Avengers – they had a tough week after their run in with the Expos they got to meet the Sea Donkeys at their new home field and get swept by a total of 29-4 at Donaldson Field. Dan Casazza had a bunch of hits and runs. Emery Hull has yet to homer this season and people are starting to get worried.
Noah Danner pitches a perfect game for the Giants facing fifteen batters in five innings and striking out nine as the little green Hulksters win 10-0. Ryan Polehonka with two hits, double and three RBIs. Giants won the Noon slot 6-3 in extra innings. Nick Hetland with eleven strikeouts in eight innings.
North Stars sweep the Twins, Sam Nelson with five hits overall and a win in the morning game pitching a two hitter and striking out nine with one walk allowed. Cardinals sweep the Indians, Matt Stengel with three hits and two doubles in the PM game. John Remakel and Zac Quammen picked up the wins for the redbirds.
