Week 4 Brings the Bats!

After 4 weeks of baseball, the Generals bats are heating up.  Generals beating the Pilots with 18 runs batted in.  The team combined to have 16 hits on the day.  Chris Gulden SMASHED a ball out to right, launching it into the wooded abyss never to be found again.  Bill Huffman is continuing his double hitting streak wtih another beauty in the 4th.  Overall the 4th inning was a hiut fest for the Generals.  Combing for 11 hits in the inning.  Joe Valentine crushed a double out to the fence in center field.  Tim Bottger also added to the double club, with a smash over the left fielders head, easily walking into second.  If the Generals can continue this type of hitting, the season is going to be a lot of fun.  Chris Gulden pitched 5 excellent innings with 5 strikeouts and only 1 earned run.  Paul Ogara came in and finished out the last two innings with 2 strikeouts and no earned runs.  Overall the Generals are playing great ball!  Keep it up boys!

General's are turning it up!

The Generals have starting hitting the ball!  Coming off of a tough loss last week, they came together to pull out a huge victory against a great ball team.  What was a sight to see was that every player contributed in this win. Two of the teams newest additions, Mike and Ty, had a huge impact on the outcome.  The fans hope to see more of this contagious hitting in the remaining weeks of the season.  The Generals are looking ahead to next week, taking one game at a time.

7/14/19:

Generals lose a tough game to the Mets

Aaron Hedrick pitched 6 excellent innings in the loss, and Brett Falkowski finished the game with 2 solid innings. The bats were held in check all night by Mets pitching.

2016 Season:

Johnson's Johnson Inches Out a Tight Victory

6.12.16

Unbelievable. That's the only word to describe the sequence of events that took place at the Mavs vs Generals game. Bonus baseball was required to decide the winner; in the bottom of the 10th, the Generals rallied to tie the game after giving up 3 runs in the top half of the inning.  With 2 outs and the bases juiced, Tim Johnson stepped up to the plate. Juan cheered loudly from the dugout, "Just hit the ball, Tim, just hit the ball."  The pitcher must have subconsciously heard Juan's instructions, as he hurled a first pitch nut shot straight into Mr. Johnson's johnson. Hit those balls he did. While Tim surveyed the damages and limped to first base, the Generals celebrated their happy ending. Amidst the Mavs' broken dreams and Tim's broken zipper, we all learned an important lesson: when it comes to taking a dick punch for the win, size does indeed matter.

Johnny 5 Forced Into Early Retirement After Breaking His Wood

6.5.16

It's with a heavy heart that the Generals salute this man, Johnny 5, one final time. Johnny broke his wood in what would prove to be his final game with the Generals and now he needs to move to Vegas for rest, relaxation and strokes of luck. Giggity. At least he went out like a true player, flirting with every defensive position for one inning and then moving on to the next. Except for pitching. Nobody wants Tim Johnson's sloppy seconds. Nobody. We will miss you Johnny 5!

This battle with the Padres was a classic.  The game went by so quickly and professionally that Generals on the bench were overheard saying "that was like real baseball." Indeed Gentlemen, it was.

The Generals turned 3 double plays to keep the Padres stifled to 2 runs, including Isaiah's beautiful 6-6-3 DP to end a critical inning and strand a man on third. It was glorious. But not as glorious as Will's hair.

Kenny had the Generals only extra base hit; a 2-run double with the bases loaded. After hanging himself out to dry rounding third later in the inning, he hustled home and scored safely in what can only be explained as a Christmas miracle. SANTA!

Bottom Line:
The Generals are back on track and team confidence is as high as Juan's strike zone.  That means the Mavs better watch out...

Generals Poop Their Pampers in Second Game After Strong Season Debut

05/15/2016: Lake Monsters 2, Generals 9

05/22/2016: Generals 6, Skeeters 16

A terrific start to the '16 season for the Blue & Gray, beating a fiesty and determined Lake Monsters team at Basswood. #19 Doug Yost kept the LM bats quiet for six stellar innings of 1 hit ball, fanning 7 and one phantom HBP. #21 Tim Johnson also contributed what technically qualifies as a save, though the rest of the team is loathe to acknowledge it.

Three Generals had a multi RBI game including new addition #34 Isaiah Campbell, who also stroked a double. Heh, stroked...

In the second game, the Generals came to Irondale field full of confidence that they were in fact hot sh!t in a champagne glass, but found that on this day at least, they were cold diarreah in a dixie cup. Despite putting up six runs on a good team, the defense and pitching just weren't there, giving way to a blowout loss for the Boys from Basswood.

The Generals will take the holiday weekend off to lick their wounds and prepare for the Padres at home at Basswood.

2015 Season:

JOHNNY 5 ON THE FENCE!!

NOW YOU’RE A MAN

In the last 3 games, Joe Valentine has gone 7 for 14 with 5 doubles, 8 RBI’s and a homer. Joe, NOW YOU’RE A MAN.  Other facts about Joe, he’s a ladies man. But he also has a soft side and enjoys ‘Berry Flavored’ bubble gum, and lunchables.

2014 Season:

LACKLUSTER EFFORT

6/8/2014

Generals 4 Skeeters 6

The Generals showed up to Irondale on Sunday for a different type of contest.  It was apparent early on that they had no interest in winning a baseball game. Instead, they all whipped it out and measured. Who had the biggest one? Apparently it was Brent, who boasted a solid 14 inches. It appeared to be in pretty good shape for the frequent abuse it takes. Most amazingly, it was roughly double the size of Kenny Oatman’s.  I am of course speaking about the biggest glove on the team.  And it’s a good thing, considering Brent has gotten progressively slower over the years, this giant glove allows him to continue tracking down difficult fly balls.  Brent made a pair of slow motion web gems on Sunday, in an otherwise lackluster performance by the Generals who fell to the Skeeters 6-4.

The Generals were plagued early on by errors that allowed Skeeters to jump to a quick lead.  Down 6-1 late in the game, The Generals nearly mounted a comeback in the 8th by scoring 3 runs, including 2 RBI’s on a Doug Yost triple. However, several innings of dead bats and poor fielding was the undoing for the Generals. After falling to 1-1 on the season, the Generals will take on the Braves next week at Basswood.

CAN'T TOUCH IT

5/18/2014

Generals Outswing Bull Dogs

Generals 10 Bull Dogs 1.

Another year has passed, and the Generals have woken, albeit a little groggy, from hibernation. The sun was out, the birds were chirping, and the wind was blowing in. But the wind didn’t seem to bother Joe Valentine, who has bucked the trend of Generals who generally get worse with age. Joe Valentine (99) entered his 3rd season while also sporting his 3rd girlfriend during that stretch. It’s now apparent that Joe upgrades every off season while also working out. Joe should probably teach his awesomeness to teammates after ripping the cover off the ball for a pair of doubles, and a single.

Tim Johnson, Kenny Oatman and Jeremy Rowso also had a multi-hit game.  New comers Doug Yost and Tim Bottger also each collected a hit and an RBI. Generals batters combined for 13 hits, 4 walks and produced 10 runs on Sunday.  Frank Volkers also came off the bench going 1-1, stating that he will probably put his feet up for the rest of the year and watch, knowing he'd be the only one batting 1.000 this year.

While the run production was great, the Generals pitching was even better. Kevin McGinnis went 9 innings in an apparent attempt to ruin his golden arm early. Kevin effectively changed speeds and moved the ball around well, while baffling the Bulldogs. Kevin collected 15 strikeouts, 8 of them looking.  It is worth noting, the Generals had a chance to win this game in 7 innings through the 10 run rule however Kevin botched his at bat which could have won the game. Several Generals are crying foul as it's possible Kevin did this on purpose just to run up the strike out total.

The Generals will take next weekend off, because playing back to back weeks sounds like too much work. Fans are welcome to come watch 6/1 at Arlington.

2013 Season....

Where Are They Now?

8/7/2013

Kirk Anderson, #34

Former third baseman Kirk Anderson played 50 regular season games for the Generals, but retired after the 2011 season out of fear of switching to wood bats. After not playing for the last two seasons, Kirk still leads the team in stolen bases with 74.  Second to Kirk is Juan Tapia with 29.  Kirks 74 stolen bags still has him ranked number 3 all time in the 28 and over league. Kirk walked away from baseball with a .419 batting average. “Of course, we have to remember that his father kept the book,” said Frank Volkers. “But nearly a .500 OBP, you have to tip your hat to that.”

So where is Kirk now? Kirk spent much of his off time campaigning for the Obama administration. After the 2012 election, Kirk realized he accidentally voted for Mitt Romney. This sent him into a downward spiral of depression and heavy drinking. Kirk has not been seen since December 2012 and his whereabouts are unknown. But we haven’t really looked for him.

Unger's Freakish Balls Star In Thrilling Win

8/4/13

2 down, top of the ninth, Generals were up by 1. The Knights were threatening with two runners on.  Jason Kunzmann was attempting to pitch a complete game for the win. Only he needed a little help from his defense. At the crack of the bat, it was apparent the game was in danger.  A ball dropped into centerfield for a base hit as the tying run rounded third base and headed for home.  Just then, Eric Unger unzipped his pants and showed his balls. "It was amazing," said Tim Johnson, "He's probably the first man I've seen who's needed a Wheel Barrel to haul his manhood around."  Unger's throw from centerfield was on the money and caught on the fly by catcher Kenny Oatman. Game over.

The game was tight all the way thorugh. The Generals held a 3-0 lead through 4 innings.  The Knights battled hard every inning, eventually putting up 1 in the 5th, and a two spot in the 6th. In the 8th inning, Kevin McGinnis scored one on a botched double play attempt to take the lead.

After the game, the Generals presented Unger with his very own gold platted Wheel Barrel and Medicinal Marijuana Card. Because when you are that much of a man, you deserve to show it.

7/28/13

Generals Beat Padres 9-1 capping off Best Month Ever

The Generals we’re efficient with their base runners, scoring 9 with 13 hits. Kevin McGinnis pitched a strong 9 innings, scattering 10 hits and only allowing 1 run. (Timmy was quick to note that this was the only earned run for the weekend.) The Padres were a strong team, much better than their 3-5 record would indicate. However, they batted 0.000 with runners in scoring position; according to their coach, this has stymied them all year. The Generals played untypical errorless ball and made some outstanding plays 1) a shoestring catch by Eric Unger 2) Juan in touch with his Spanish roots with an Ole’ catch up the middle 3) a strike-‘em-out-throw-‘em-out double play, the 2nd of 2 runners caught stealing at second by Kenny Oatman. This play did not bode well for the Padres.

This strong play by the Generals finished off the best month of the franchise. The Generals outscored their opponents 56 – 10 with a 4-0 record. The month with the most runs is still Aug. 2009 where the Generals scored 65 and allowed 43 in 5 games finishing with a 3-2 record. Runs allowed for the 4 games this July was 10, the previous best month was 14 runs allowed (excluding any Mays or Septembers) in both July and Aug. of 2012, (the Generals also played 4 games in both of these months). Obviously, this July was the largest run differential for the Generals at 46. The previous record was 26 in June of 2012.

July has been historically horrid for the Generals. In 2007, the Generals won their first 3 July games, and then lost to the Brewers on 7/29/07 11-14. Their next July win was 7/10/11 against the Nationals 17-0 (which was their only July win that year). Up through 2012, their July record was 7-14 scoring 142 and giving up 172.

Another first last Sunday was Kevin pitching 9 innings. No one has come close except Tim who pitched both games in a 7-inning double header in the 2007 playoffs. However, these game stats are not on the website, so soon will be remembered in myth and legend only.

TIMMAY!

7/27/13

Timmay Johnson gave a strong effort in a big win over the Red Sox on Saturday. Tim benefited from the following: Throwing a fastball off Mt Everest, high run support(14), and a strike zone bigger than Mt Everest. In an effort that likely makes him believe he’s young again, Tim went 5 innings, striking out six and did not allow any earned runs.

In what felt like a party atmosphere, the Generals all produced at the plate. All players had at least one hit, with the exception of Jeremy Rowso and Juan Tapia, who were not invited to the champagne room after the game.

Chad Yungerberg and Kenny Oatman combined for 7-8, 6 RBI’s and 3 runs.  They also took turns getting on their knees behind homeplate. That should probably be rephrased, but my backspace key is broken.

At the end of the day, the Generals produced 14 runs on 22 hits.

Generals Play Small Ball In 6-3 Win

Sunday 7/21/13

Compared to recent weeks, the bats went cold for the Generals on Sunday. However, gutty pitching and solid defense(at times) helped the Generals tough out a win against the Wobblies 6-3. Brent Ebling and Kevin McGinnis combined for 5 innings of scoreless relief and picked up the win/save respectively.

Following a 28 hit performance last week, the Generals only managed 8 hits on Sunday, with three of the hits going to Kevin McGinnis.  McGinnis, Bretn Ebling and Jason Kunzmann all had a double.  Kunzmann’s double in the first inning stretched his hitting streak to 8 hits over 8 plate appearances.  This torrid streak came to an end in his next at bat as it was his only hit of the game. While the team bats were cold, patient at bats allowed the generals to draw 8 walks, and 1 HBP for Kenny Oatman.

The Generals tipped their hats to the Wobblies after the game, a little baffled by their 1-7 record. Common consensus was that their pitching was significantly better than their record reflects.

The Generals will anger their wives next weekend as they play both Saturday and Sunday.

EVERYONE HITS

Sunday July 17th

The Generals soared to a record victory over the Muskies on Sunday. All ten batters in the lineup had at least 1 hit, with with six batters having 3 hits or more. In a game cut short by the 7 inning mercy rule, the Generals piled up 27 runs on 28 hits, while drawing 12 walks and 1 HBP. Yes, that means not including errors, 41 batters reached base safely. That may be a team record. Here are just a few of the records that fell on Sunday:

·         Most Runs in one game, 27 – previous Black Sox with 23 2012

·         Biggest run differential, 23 – previous is 18 against Brewers in 2007

·         Most hits as a team in a game, 28 -  previous is 22 against NE9 (2008) & Voyageurs (2009)

·         Most BB in one Game, Brent with 5 – previous Brent (2010) and Kirk (2011) with 4

·         Most hits in one game, Jason with 7 – previous Juan with 5 (2009)

·         Most RBIs in a game, Jason with 10 – previous BJ with 9 (2013) & BJ with 6 (2011)

·         Kenny and Brent both scored 5 times on Sunday... Breaking the previous record of 4.  And Jeremy tied that previous record of 4.

Prior to the game on Sunday, a prophet spoke to Chad, bringing him good news. After being hitless on the season, and very frustrated, the prophet told Chad that he would get two hits, and probably be robbed a line drive at somepoint in the game. Chad spit at the prophet and told him to go to heck.  Chad plays by his own rules. Ending a dry spell that rivaled the 40 year old virgin, Chad went 4-5 scoring 2 runs, and knocking in a run. A great stat line that barely scratches the surface of an insane game on Sunday.

Always being known for patience at the plate, the Generals tried an experiment. A tube of super glue, a bat, and Brent Ebling’s ear. The result? A team record of 5 walks in one game! The side effect? Brent looked foolish running around with bat attatched to his face while chasing down fly balls.

Then there’s Jason Kunzmann.  We would like to avoid talking about him, as to not stroke his ego. But alas, a 7-7 showing with 10 RBI’s cannot be ignored. Jason, you are officially twice the man as BJ.

This Sunday the Generals will battle the Wobblies at Basswood.

GENERALS CRUISE TO BIG WIN 16-0.

Sunday June 23rd.

The Generals cruised to an easy win on Sunday against the Mavericks. The game almost didn’t happen. After several days of heavy rain, Basswood field was underwater. Thanks to hard work by Kevin McGinnis, Brent Ebling, Jeremy Rowso, Kenny Oatman and Chad Yungerberg, the field was made playable. Shop Vacs were used to pump the water off the field.  Brandon Fox offered his expertise by observing the hard work.

In his second start of the season, Kevin McGinnis was spectacular. He scattered 4 hits over 7 innings while striking out 5 and walking none. While pitching a shutout, McGinnis was never in trouble. Only once did a base runner reach second base and it wasn’t until the 7th inning. In 4 of the 7 innings, he faced the minimum of 3 batters, and never faced more than 5 batters in an inning.

After the game, a mold of Kevin’s genitals were made in bronze.  Replicas will be for sale on the Generals home page.

Every General reached base at least once, piling up 11 hits, 16 walks and scoring 16 runs.

GENERALS 12 – DODGERS 2    ON RAIN SOAKED BASSWOOD FIELD

Sunday 6/9

Generals started the game with 3 base hits, a walk by Derrick, and capped off the inning with a 3-run home run by BJ, giving the Generals a 5-0 run after the first inning. This would end up being enough due the lights out pitching by Kevin McGinnis, throwing 7 innings for 2 runs (both unearned) and 4 strike outs. However, BJ took advantage with the bases loaded in the 5th inning hitting a grand slam. Everyone on the General’s side was happy except Derrick who is losing 3-0 in the home run race. Derrick, who said, “I’ll not be cheated on a pimp,” was not impressed with BJ sprinting around the bases. Hopefully, Derrick will get his chances to throw his bat a few times as the season wears on.  BJ ended up batting in 9 of the 12 runs in for the Generals.

BATS FLOP IN SEASON OPENER

GENERALS FALL 5-6 TO VOYAGEURS

Sunday 6/2

Through the first four batters on Sunday, the Generals looked like a team that wouldn’t lose a game this year. Brent Ebling and Juan Tapia quickly started off with a pair of singles. Derrick Peoples crushed a hard line drive over the third basemen for an RBI. Brandon Pink Eye Fox then turned on a fastball and launched it over the right field wall for a three run homer, aided by a gale force wind that came out of nowhere. After 4 batters, the Generals were up 4-0.

Sadly, the success did not last. Aside from tacking on another run in the third courtesy of a Juan Tapia RBI, the Voyageurs managed to shut down the Generals. While the bats went cold for the entire team, the bottom of the order was especially bad. The bottom 5 batters of the order went a combined 0-14 with one walk and regularly ended the innings.

Jason Kunzmann and Brent Ebling combined for 8 innings, striking out 4 and walking 6.  The Generals fell to the Voyageurs 6-5.

INJURY REPORT

Brandon Fox: activated from the DL following a nasty case of Pink Eye. Brandon talked about it after the game: “Not sure what happened. I just remember having an itchy ass and an itchy eye. Next thing I know my eye is goopy.”

Tim Johnson: Suffering from chronic whininess. Not expected to miss any time, however will likely whine more next week.

Derrick Peoples: Some sort of leg injury, but he doesn’t whine about it like others.

Generals Beat Voyageurs 3-1

8/26/2012

The Generals and Voyageurs battled late Sunday night in a tight and somewhat boring game.  Neither team could get anything going offensively.  The Generals struck first with an Rbi Sac Fly from Brandon Fox in the 4th. However, the Voyageurs knocked in a run in the fifth.  From there, the game stood at a stalemate until the top of the 14th inning. Derrick Peoples blasted a game winning two run homer to put the Generals ahead.  Kevin McGinnis shut the Voyageurs down in order with three strike outs to close the game and earn the win.  Derrick Peoples went 4-5 including that home run, his third of the year.  Jason Kunzmann, Brent Ebling and Kevin McGinnis combined for 14 innings, allowing 1 run, striking out 15 while only handing out 3 free passes. It was a dominant performance from the big three.  The Generals improved to 10-3, while the Voyageurs fell to 5-8.

Big Inning Lifts Generals 12-1

8/19/2012

After a couple weeks of games so poor, they were not written about, The Dodgers and Generals went to battle on Sunday, in a game that appeared it would be a close one.  Through 4 innings, the score held at a silent 0-0.  The Dodgers starter pitcher kept the General bats cool, getting 10 of the first hitters out before allowing a walk. In fact, the Generals went 1 for 12 through the first 4 innings.  Everything changed in the fifth inning.

After going 1 for 12, the Generals then went 7 for their next 11.  Exploding for 11 runs, (13 in one inning is team record) with all but two generals scoring a run.  The Generals also tacked on another run in the 7th.

Brent Ebling pitched a solid 5 innings and allowed 1 run.  Brent's ERA is now a cool 1.62.  Kevin McGinnis pitched 2 innings of relief while striking out 4.

In other notes,

Juan Tapia decided he would show up this game, instead of ditching the team at the last second. While Juan did have two hits, he was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double in the 7th, and also should have been thrown out(minus a throwing error) doing the same thing in the 5th inning.  Juan, McKayla is not impressed.

Cubs Narrowly Escape Basswood

Sunday July 29th

The Cubs eked out victory over the previously undefeated Generals on Sunday, in a game that was tight from start to finish.  The Generals drew first blood with a solo homerun by Derrick Peoples in the bottom of the first. It was the second homer by Peoples this year.  The Cubs battled back scoring 1 in the third and fourth innings. In the 7th, Derrick Peoples scored on an RBI single from Jason Kunzmann to tie the game up.  However, the tie was short lived as Cubs scored two in the top of the 8th.  In the bottom of the 8th, Jeremy Rowso drew a walk with two outs, followed by singles from Kenny Oatman and Chris Gilbert. With the bases loaded, Brent Ebling hit Sacrifice Fly to pull the Generals within 1. The Rally was extinguished when Juan Tapia hit an infield fly.

In the bottom of the 9th, with the score 4-3 in favor of the Cubs, Derrick Peoples and Brandon Fox lead off with a pair of walks.  Jason Kunzmann then hit a fly ball out to centerfield, and Derrick Peoples was thrown out trying to advance. Eric Unger then ripped a ground ball up the middle, which was robbed by the Cubs pitcher for the third out as the Cubs narrowly beat the Generals.

Brent Ebling and Jason Kunzmann pitched well for the Generals, however were shadowed by a strong performance from Cubs Pitcher Burnie Rossum who went 9 innings.  While on the losing side of this game, the Generals proved on Sunday that they are the real deal in a game that was essentially a coin flip.  “We stuck with them and nearly pulled it off,” Said Chad Yungerberg, “They are easily better than any crappy team the Diablos put together the last few years.”

The Generals tip their hat to the Cubs this time around, but will be ready for them come playoffs.

Notes:

Jason Kunzmann over the last two games is 5-8 with a pair of RBI’s and 2 runs scored, pushing his average to .406

Juan Tapia did not get a hit on Sunday, the second time in his career.

PITCHING AND SOLID D

Sunday July 22nd

The Generals hosted the Wobblies on Sunday, in a game that first appeared to be a possible pitching duel.  The game went scoreless through the first 3 innings before both teams got on the board. The Wobblies struck first with an unearned run in the top of the fourth.  It would be the only run they score through the game.   The Generals quickly bounced back scoring three in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead permanently. The breakout moment of the game came in the 6th inning with Jeremy Rowso strategically swinging on bases loaded 2-out 3rd strike, knowing the catcher wouldn’t catch the pitch. Everyone was running and the catcher’s throw to first ended up in right field. This allowed Derrick, who started on 2nd , to score in addition to BJ who started on 3rd. With 2 hits with the next two batters (Kenny getting an RBI), we scored 3 runs that inning after the strike out which could have been the third out. This made the game 6-1, instead of 3-1, making the game more out of reach for the Wobblies.  All but one General had a hit on Sunday, including 3 hits for Jason Kunzmann and Frank Volkers. Playing in a slightly nicer neighborhood this week where crime is less common(Tim Johnson would disagree), both Juan Tapia and Jeremy Rowso were caught stealing.

Jeremy Rowso and Kevin McGinnis teamed up to shut down the Wobblies allowing 1 unearned run over 9 innings, and only allowing 2 hits.  1 of hits was a blown call by the umpire.  The Generals look forward to the biggest game of the year this Sunday as they take on one of the best in the league, The Cubs in Maple Grove. With Sunday’s win, the Generals are 8-0, and the only undefeated team in all of TCMABL.

Here is proof the Generals are out to win this year.  This damage was done Kevin’s ankle early in his pitching performance.  It did not stop him from pushing on.

THE HIT HEARD AROUND THE WORLD

SUNDAY JULY 15TH

When Jeremy Rowso traveled to the game against the Padres on Sunday, he made a pit stop and a nearby gas station.  Upon noticing the bullet proof glass, he asked the attendant, “Is this neighborhood really that bad?”  “Oh yeah!” responded the attendant.  During the early portions of the Generals-Padres game, the sound of loud squealing wheels, and then a thunderous bang stopped the game. No, it was not Eric Unger’s three run homer. Instead it was a hit and run.  Not a baseball hit n run, but the kind you expect in bad neighborhoods, like the one in St Paul. Upon spinning out of control and slamming into a parked car, the driver backed up and took off, nearly running over a pedestrian.  The following names are censored by witness protection.  Fr-nk V-lkers immediately called 911 and reported accident. J-e V@l--ti_ne ran across the street and grabbed the license plate and entire bumper that fell off the idiots car, which was a great idea because the guy later came back looking for his plate.  What a jerk.  By the later innings of the game, the police had made an arrest.

In other news, there actually was a game played in Sunday, it just wasn’t as exciting as a hit and run. The normally impatient hitters of the Generals were unusually selective.  Each batter worked fairly deep in the count as the team drew a total of 12 walks, 3 which were gathered by Brent 'Sweaty' Ebling! The Generals scored 8 runs, all by different players. Eric Ungers first inning 3 run homerun was all the team needed.  Jason Kunzmann pitched 6 strong innings allowing 2 runs, and Brent Ebling pitched the final 3 allowing no runs.  Playing in a bad neighborhood where thievery is probably common, Juan Tapia stole 3 bases, and Jeremy Rowso shoplifted another 2. Brandon Fox’s 6 game hitting streak came to an end, however still has the hottest bat on the team batting a toasty .560.

With the win, the Generals climb to 7-0, and stand alone in first place in the American Division. Taking a little history lesson, the previous best record by the Generals through 7 games was 5-2 back in 2007.  In 2008 they started 2-5, in 2009 3-4, in 2010 2-5, and in 2011 3-4.

All Star Break

Brent Ebling and Jason Kunzmann represented the Generals well during the 2012 All-star game.  In the top of the 6th,  Jason had the hardest hit of the game crushing it over the left fielder’s head with what turned out to be the game winning RBI double. Brent pitched a scoreless inning  in the bottom of the 7th, making a diving play near the left field line, having the wobblie fans singing the “na-na-nuht --- na-na-nuht” web gem theme song, all the while NOT calling time-out to catch his breath. The American league was winning 5-4 after 8 when the sprinklers in deep center field turned on in a part of the field that wasn’t used all game. However, with the ripple effect of Nate Lukecarts injury early this season, the league has been very careful about sprinkler heads. Nate of course, completely severed his right ankle earlier this season on a sprinkler head, ending the career of the likely first ballot hall of famer. In light of Nate’s injury, the remainder of the All Star game was called.

DANCING WITH THE STARS
Sunday July 1st.

The Generals climbed to 6-0 with a 9-7 win over the Mets on Sunday. The effort was led by recent addition to the team, Brad Unger who went 3-3, scoring 2 runs, two doubles and knocking in 2 RBI's and drew a walk. It was about as close to a perfect game as a General can expect as Unger earned the MVP beer. Brandon Fox also continued his hitting tear going 3-3 with another double.

It was a tight game all the way through. With a late scratch from expected starting pitcher Brent Ebling(purchased season one of Glee and couldn't stop watching it), Jamie Glade got the start. Jamie looked untouchable for the first two innings, then had some control problems in the third. After getting pulled after 3, Jamie left the team in a good spot being tied 1-1. In the bottom of the third, A pair of walks to Eric Unger and Jeremy Rowso resulted in RBI singles from Brandon Fox and Jason Kunzmann.

In the 5th, Eric Unger lead off with a single, and then advanced on a wild pitch. With two outs, The Mets strangely decided to intentionally walk the fourth best hitter on the team, Brandon Fox, to face the best hitter, Jason Kunzmann. The results were damaging. Kunzmann jacked a double down the left field line as both Unger and Fox scored.

Brandon Fox pitched two stellar innings for the Generals in relief. Only problem was, he pitched a third. In the top of the 7th, the Mets got to Fox with some weak bloopers and seeing eye balls that found their way through on what were relatively good pitches. However, the damage was done as the Mets climbed ahead 7-5.

Fast forward bottom of the 8th, The Generals battled back with a two out rally, highlighted by Jamie Glade RBI single, a Brad Aaberg RBI Double and an Eric Unger 2 RBI Double. Jason Kunzmann then closed down the Mets in the ninth to pick up the win.

Other game highlights:

Mario Morelli showed off some nifty foot work to dodge a wild pitch. He credits his quick feet to his work last year on dancing with the stars. Mario also broke Chad's bat.

Brandon Fox, before the game, saw some kids selling popsicles for 50 cents. Brandon had the nerve to try and barter with the kids offering 25 cents. During the game, Brandon plunked Mets catcher Brian Weller. It was one of three bean balls Weller took. After the game, Brandon asked Fox if it hurt. Weller replied, "The two from the other pitchers did, yours was weak."

Jason Kunzmann, when asked how his arm was feeling prior to pitching, replied "Big n Strong."

Chad Yungerberg, since Sunday, has been plotting revenge against Mario for his broken bat.

STAT CORRECTIONS

Recent whiners:

-Brent Ebling hit a ball between the second basemen’s legs on Sunday, and he argues that it did not touch glove, so he should get a hit. This type of lobbying for stats would make Tim Johnson proud.  Although most sane people would say this was an error, I’m not sane. 1B has been awarded to Brent.

-Brandon, week one, awarded a stolen base that was 'forgotten' about.

-Brandon, week five, correction from a single to a double.

- Brandon, week five, correction, SAC does not count as an at bat.

This guy didn't whine:

- Derrick, week 4, Catcher Interference does not count as an at bat.

BJ ERUPTS!

June 24th 2012

Game Recap: The Generals improved to 5-0 on Sunday, beating the Phoenix 7-1.  The Generals scored 3 runs in the second inning to take an early lead. Three of the first four hitters (Jason Kunzmann, Chad Yungerberg and Jeremy Rowso) reached base and scored with RBI’s from Kenny Oatman(1) and Mario Morelli(2).  In the third inning with two outs, BJ Fox got it started with double, followed by a single from Kunzmann. Chad Yungerberg followed with a two out double and RBI that scored Fox, however Kunzmann was thrown out at the plate.  In the sixth inning, Derrick Peoples lead off with a single, and advanced on a stolen base and wild pitch, both proving to be critical advances that allowed him to score on a BJ Fox sacrifice fly.  In the eighth inning, these two teamed up again with a Peoples single, followed by a deep two run homerun to right field by BJ Fox that was admired by all. On the mound, Jason Kunzmann pitched 6 scoreless innings striking out 5.  Derrick Peoples and Brent Ebling teamed up for the final three innings to shut the door on the Phoenix.

Other notes: Staying hot at the plate, Brandon (BJ) Fox pushed his multi hit streak to 5 games. Jeremy Rowso pushed his multi hit streak to 4 games. ODE TO A DEAD GUY:  Or streak for that matter, Juan Tapia had a hit in every game that he ever played in dating back to 2009.  That was 28 games.  This came to an end on Sunday as he went 0-4.  We all tipped our hat to Juan for a fantastic streak he will look to start again next week.

EVIL EBLING CARRIES GENERALS

Sunday June 17th

Brent Ebling had his best stuff on Sunday. His fast ball zipped, his changeup fooled, and his curveball was ruthless. Every pitch Brent threw looked unfair.  Just how cold blooded was Brent on Sunday? In-between innings, he stole candy from a child. When the child cried, Brent smiled and mocked the poor kid. He was evil, it was his own kid. For 7 innings, Brent tortured the Northeast Nine with unhittable pitches. Brent went 7 innings, striking out 5 and allowing 1 earned run.  But it didn’t stop there, at the plate he went 3-4 with two runs, easily earning the MVP beer after the game.

The Generals jumped on the Northeast NINE early, scoring 3 runs in the first inning.  It would be all that the Generals needed as they rolled to a 10-2 victory.  Kenny Oatman recovered from a frustrating game the previous Sunday, going 2-4 with a pair of RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Juan Tapia and Erik Pederson also each racked up a pair of RBI’s.  Derrick Peoples showed his experience by know just how much he could say to an umpire without getting ejected. Brandon The Gray Fox and Jeremy Rowso each had 2 hits.

In an interview after the game with the local news media, Frank Volkers was asked about the recent success.  “It’s simple really.  We kept our best players, we got rid of some dead weight.”  Frank didn’t really say that.  But we know he was thinking it. Now that the Generals have started the season 4-0 for the first time in franchise history, they have announced that ticket prices will be increased by 50%.  However, they are still free. The Generals next play at Blaine Baseball Complex on Sunday, 5pm against a very good team, the Phoenix.

INJURY REPORT UPDATE:

No changes to the previously mentioned injuries. New Additions:

Frank Volkers (Chafing) – was a little uncomfortable after ‘a little’ running the day before. Day to Day.

Chad Yungerberg (PRIVATES) -  He hurt his privates.  Recovery time unknown.

WINNING! DUH!

Sunday June 10th

The Generals made the long drive up to Princeton on Sunday, barely scraping together 9 to play. However, those 9 who braved the trip brought their A game… for the most part. The Generals came out on the winning side of a high scoring game on Sunday beating the Black Sox 23-12.  All 9 Generals got on base at least once, and 8 of the 9 reached base multiple times. Derrick Peoples, Brandon Fox, Jason Kunzman, Joe Valentine and Jeremy Rowso each had 3 hits or more in a strong offensive showing.

While the game was filled with some nice highlights.  There were also some lows that deserve some awards:

The ‘TIM JOHNSON’ award : Goes to Kenny Oatman for being the third out 5 times in the game.

The ‘Rube Baker’ award: Goes to Jeremy Rowso for his inability to throw anywhere near a target, and forcing him to think about mid season retirement.

The ‘Eric Cartman’ award: Goes to Brandon Fox, for being winded and needing a break after running <90 feet for a foul ball.

The Generals are now 3-0 for the first time in franchise history. This Father’s Day, they travel to Minneapolis to take on the Northeast NINE.

INJURY REPORT UDPATE:

Nate Lukecart (ankle).  Moved to the 60 Game DL. Tripped over kids toys last week and had a setback.

Tim Johnson (PH imbalance). 60 Game DL.  Testosterone shots have offered no improvements.

Chris Aliperto (Back). 60 Game DL.  Massage therapy with happy endings have only resulted in Chris wanting more happy endings.

Erick Mortenson (Ankle). Day to day. Erick made a rehab appearance last week and played… adequately.

Kevin McGinnis (botched prostate exam). 15 DL and recovering well.

Kirk Anderson (Scared of wood).  60 Game DL.

Jamie Glade (MIA).  Rumored to be squatching. (Looking for Big Foot)

ANOTHER TIGHT ONE IN FAVOR OF THE GENERALS

Sunday 6/3/12

The Generals pulled out another win, 6-5 over the Lakers on Sunday. According to Frank Volkers, this is the first time the team has ever started 2-0 to start a season.  The Lakers jumped on starter Jason Kunzmann for 4 runs in the first inning, with a lot of weak hits that just found their way.  Jason settled down and put up a few blanks to keep the Generals in the game. The Generals picked up a run in the 2nd, and 3 in the 3rd to tie the game, and 2more to pull ahead in the 5th.  Jeremy Rowso went 3-3 while swiping a couple bases and scoring two, and Brandon Fox lead the RBI charge with a pair. Rowso picked up the win in rollercoaster middle relief appearance and Brent Ebling picked up the save in a strong showing.

The Generals will be saving their gas money this week to make a long trip to Princeton this coming Sunday.

WHITE CAPS ‘CAPPED’ BY STRONG PITCHING EFFORT

Sunday 5/20/12

Nake Lukecart was excited to get to the field Sunday evening.  He had just made his kids cry and his wife angry by telling them he had better things to do.  He was late for warm-ups; in slow motion he jogged on to the field gracefully for infield practice. Nate stumbled and rolled his ankle at the first base line.  He sprained his ankle bad enough that he didn’t even bother playing.  His season over before he threw his first ball.  Although Tim Johnson was not at the field Sunday, we all suspect this incident will make him cry with laughter like a little girl, possibly wetting his pants.

The Generals came out on the winning side of a very tight game on Sunday.  Third year pitcher Brent Ebling was dealing as he cruised through 5 innings, striking out 5 and allowing 3R, 2ER.  Kevin McGinnis pitched 4 strong innings in his rookie debut, and earned the save.

The Generals jumped on the White Caps starter Kyle Field for 4 runs in the first inning, but then were silenced through the 4th.  The White Caps pulled within 1, but the Generals rallied to tack on another run in the 5th, and another 3 in the 7th.  Offensively, the game was sealed when new comer rookie Derrick Peoples hit a towering 2 run homer in the bottom of the 7th.  Derrick also finished the game with 9 putouts in centerfield and won the MVP beer.  9 out of 10 Generals hitters had at least 1 hit as the team rolled to an 8-6 victory over the defending champions.
